First weekend in May
It had been an idea a few months ago to try and undertake a record number of Tandems over a 2 day weekend. It was decided to try for 55 Tandem descents, 30 on Saturday and 25 on Sunday. With this in mind, bookings were begun and before too long, it was over subscribed.
As the date drew nearer, the bookings were fine-tuned when some dropped out for one reason or another. Fortunately we had a reserve list and filled the vacant slots.
On the day it self, students were asked to arrive in 3 waves and began with oh-cor-blimey-o'clock, 0715!! Dean undertook the initial admin and ground training whilst the Instructors and cameramen readied themselves for the coming day.
There were a few who couldn't or didn't make the dates but we can proudly boast that we gave a Tandem Parachuting experience to all who showed up; the final total was a very respectable 51!
Thanks must go to Maria who helped enormously with finding potential Tandem students, the Instructors Andy, George, Pelham, Anthony, Demetris and welcomed friend of Cyprus, Matt. The cameramen kept pace with the students' requirements and the packers helped behind the scenes. Manifesting and fee collection was superbly handled by Courtney and Kate and the kit preparation, equipment fitting, de-kitting and tandem catching were brilliantly coordinated and undertaken by Tania and Avgi.
Although some names are mentioned, it's worth noting that the whole club pulled together to make the event work smoothly, everyone is to be congratulated for it's success, unparalleled in Cyprus so far. The bar height is now set, so let's see what the next target will be!
